METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD: 'Being Able To Access Your Feelings Is Not Unmacho'
July 4, 2004METALLICA frontman James Hetfield recently spoke to Jim Farber of the New York Daily News about the group's upcoming $4.3 million documentary "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster". "There are parts that are horribly embarrassing, parts I wish weren't in there," he said about the movie. "But image management isn't my department."
Regarding the fact that he comes across in the film as a tough guy who learns to lighten up, Hetfield said, "Being able to access your feelings is not unmacho. Wanting to know about how your mind works is good. If your foot hurts, you go to a doctor. If there's something wrong with your head, you go to a therapist. It's simple."
Ironically, the band's therapist, Phil Towle, comes off as perhaps the strangest and most emotionally evasive person in the film.
"We all have issues," Hetfield said. "[Phil] has boundary issues in a different way. He'll get into people's lives and then not know when to stop." Read more.
